‘The Conference “Protection and Safeguard of Cultural Heritage from Risks Connected to Natural and Man-made Disasters. International, European and national perspectives” was organized by dr. Flavia Zorzi Giustiniani, Assistant Professor of International Law and national coordinator of the International Disaster Law Project, with the assistance of dr. Alice Riccardi. The event, which was held in Rome on 4 December 2013 at Sala delle Bandiere – Information Office of the European Parliament in Italy, builds on the growing interest of the scientific community in providing legal and practical answers to the problems arising in the context of disasters different from armed conflicts. In particular, an under-investigated aspect of the so called international disaster law concerns the protection and safeguard of cultural heritage in the event of calamities. This prompted the research unit of the International Telematic University Uninettuno to convene academics, legal experts and cultural heritage practitioners to discuss theoretical and concrete aspects of cultural heritage protection from disasters.…’
